Directly traded with a cooperative in India, Mancotta is a high-grade broken leaf Assam which brews a strong, deep, and exciting black tea. The dried leaves explode with notes of jam, flowers and sweet sponge cake. The brewed tea smells of blackcurrant jam and violets with balanced astringency and bitterness. This Assam brings to mind cream tea in a sweet floral garden.

We source our Assam directly from the Mancotta cooperative in India.
Assam is in the far northeast of India. It is known for wild jungles, the Indian rhinoceros, and strong, malty black tea. Assam belongs to the region of the planet that is the original native home of the tea tree. The tea tree has two common varieties: Camellia sinensis sinensis, and Camelia sinensis assamica, with the latter native to Assam. It makes tea that is bracing, full of flavour, and great with milk.
